SA Banking Ombudsman Reveals Most Common Complaints about Banks & Bankers – FNB had Most Complaints!

More than 7,700 official complaints have been lodged with the Ombudsman for Banking Services in South Africa, who published their annual report for the 2020 financial year, which contains the most common complaints against banks, as well as bankers, because the relationship between larger customers and the banker is also in the report. 6,472 complaints were received the previous year (2019).
Some complaints are brought to the attention of the Bank with the expectation of getting a response to them and for reporting to the Ombudsman. In this regard, the Ombudsman referred 8,389 cases back to the Banks concerned, which is a sharp increase compared to the 4,709 returned to banks in 2019.
Complaints related to matters on current accounts included fraud, fees charged, and other costs, as well as banks’ negligence in issuing warnings of accounts to be closed by the bank. The Ombudsman also closed 981 accounts involving internet fraud.

In a study published last week, the Fitch credit rating agency has warned the ANC government, which is still reluctant to consider public sector salary demands for the next three-year term, over it’s inability to exercise control over spending, which could lead to further budget problems.
The ratings agency pointed out that the compensation paid to public sector workers, which makes up a massive 35% of the workforce, will not yield good results, and furthermore, any salary increases and adjustments could be detrimental, as the country’s growth will only be around 2% for the financial year.
In response to the agency’s report, Nazmeera Moola, head of SA Investments, claimed that the agencies were inclined to be skeptical of the ANC government’s ability to stick to its position of 0% increase in remuneration.

A new twist in the Tokyo Sexwale “stolen quadrillion” saga has appeared – after the fund invited ANC government, to a Bank in Singapore. The chairman of the Worldwide Proxy and Trustee of the White Spiritual Boy (WSB) and Spiritual Wonder Boy (SWB) Heritage Funds, Mr Chark Leong Boey, has written a letter in his personal capacity, in an effort to clarify the confusion around the Heritage Fund. The Hawks on Monday confirmed that they were investigating two cases of alleged theft amounting to over R41 quadrillion.

Die SA Reserwebank sien ruimte om die koerse nog vir ʼn tyd lank laag te hou in ʼn poging om die ekonomie te help om te herstel. Die Sentrale Bank wil graag die huidige koerse te handhaaf, maar kon nie bevestig hoe lank dit nog toegepas sal word nie.
Sakeondernemings verwelkom die standpunt van die Reserwe bank omdat hy rentekoerse vir so lank as wat daar ruimte voor is, om laag te hou. Dit kan bydrae daartoe dat die negatiewe uitwerking van die pandemie ietwat gouer kan herstel sal wees. Mits rentekoerse nie weer verhoog nie.
